women in black

Fri, 11/19/2010 - 6:44PM by trendyintellect 0 Comments -

my perusal of numerous online fashion sites and blogs have led me to one conclusion: aside from the 'mixed neutrals' trend everyone seems to be pushing lately, all black has made a rather large comeback (unintentional rhyming, points for me!). you may have noticed that the most common perpetrators have been the olsen twins, mary kate and ashley*. now if you look below you'll see i've collected an array of photos of women in black just for you.

*as an avid reader of my blog, which i know you are, i would like to make a reference to an older post about mary kate and her apparent inspiration, allison reynolds of the breakfast club... and if this happens to be new information to you i command you to scroll down and read it now! just kidding... i'll provide you with a link - the breakfast club - only one click away!

note: while you might think you will look like a punk, or say, a black cat, don't fret: kate moss does it, so its fine if you do too.

and if you haven't already heard, lanvin has released a special line exclusively for h&m, re:

what did i tell you? all black...

do notice that while all black may be the main focus of these ladies, they still happen to

channel some of the latest trends (other than mixed neutrals):

turbans

maxi skirts/ dresses

combat boots

top hats

fur

leather

and if i may quote style.compunk's not dead.

spotlight: victoria beckham (the line and the lady behind it)

Sun, 11/07/2010 - 9:56PM by trendyintellect 0 Comments -

as a former spice girl, one would think that posh's* collection would run a different route, closer to that of...heatherette's*. however, just like her husband, her collections are drop dead gorgeous. here are some pieces from her latest collection, chose by yours truly (me, duh!), for your viewing pleasure. notice the awesome silhouettes and structures.

victoria beckham ss/11

victoria beckham vs heatherette

now i'd like to dedicate a moment to the awesomeness of the spice girls...

and another moment to david beckham*...

(don't tell me your not adoring  those amazing abs that gorgeous smile!!)

also, to make your lives easier, here's the link i know you'll all be searching for within the next few minutes:

*the ti dictionary (a cure for the inept):

  1. posh - victoria beckham, former spice girl, married to
  2. david beckham - famous soccer player and all around hunk
  3. heatherette - surprisingly successful clothing line run by richie rich and traver rains (why??)

winter is near, fur is here

    Wed, 11/03/2010 - 7:14PM by trendyintellect 0 Comments -

along with the winter months comes the desperate need for some feline friends; and i don't mean puppies or kittens... all though, these items are quite cute and cuddly, they happen to be much more stylish* (and don't require feeding or walking)

*paris hilton might argue this point and suggest a live animal be far more stylish, however she is paris hilton and i doubt any one of you will ever find themselves in an argument with her

how to unleash the feline within:

step 1: furrify your body with

    a. THEORY MARTISE AMERICAN RACCOON HOODED VEST or

    b. FRENCH CONNECTION FANCY FAUX FUR VEST

step 2: furrify your feet with

    a. ALEXANDER WANG POLINA BOOTS or

    b. OPENING CEREMONY RABBIT CUFF SUEDE PLATFORM BOOTIES

step 3: for further furrifying try

    a. MARC BY MARC JACOBS CHEEKY EDIE BAG or

    b. EUGENIA KIM FAUX FUR TROOPER HAT

disclaimer: i strongly suggest only wearing one item from this list at a time - in effort to avoid being on the cover of a newspaper whose headline will most probably read "Beware: Big Foot - Myth No More". also you might be recruited into the Central Park Zoo. however, if you have a strange affinity for looking like big foot and/or a bear, then feel free to sport all of these together! but don't say I didn't warn you...

style tips from the girl who whips her hair (back and forth)

    Tue, 10/19/2010 - 2:47PM by trendyintellect 0 Comments -

    name: willow smith

    age: 9 (!!!!)

parents: will smith and jada pinkett smith (because shes nine i felt as if this was necessary)

now that you know that shes nine who she is, lets get to the point...

note: i am not accusing you of not knowing her...bc that would be a pop culture felony on your behalf; however i try not to discriminate against those of us who are pop culturally inept

    continuing to the point...

without fail, this girl has been able to flawlessly channel the latest trends, and look absolutely fly

    see below

    willow smith channeling military

    willow smith channeling leopard...on leopard

willow smith channeling exaggerated shoulder detail

    willow smith channeling feminine-grunge

    willow smith channeling john-lennon-inspired shades

    so, what have we learned?

    a. nine year olds are cool

    b. willow smith is nine

    c. everyone one should: wear military, sport leopard, channel exaggerated shoulder detail, go grunge, and try to be john lennon

while on the topic of willow smith, check out her sickass music video

and note that some portions of this video (unintentionally, i hope) resemble scenes from various exorcism movies

    re: minute 3:12

    bye.

ps - this girl is nineeeeeeeee

(at 9, my mother was still responsible for putting my hair into a mere pony tail and the only thing i cared about was my virtual pet)

    COACH
    LEOPARD OXFORD BOOTIE

i was never a big fan of coach...or LEOPARD!! but at the supermarket i saw this girl sporting a slicked back ponytail and a white button up blouse, tucked into skinnies...which would usually be a very normal outfit, if she wasn't sporting these babies...they looked stunning! the perfect touch to such a plain look; and when she told me they were coach i was shocked! kudos to coach.

Next on my reading list: Blink

    Fri, 09/10/2010 - 9:56PM by trendyintellect 0 Comments -

    By Malcolm Gladwell - obviously.

"It's a book about rapid cognition, about the kind of thinking that happens in a blink of an eye. When you meet someone for the first time, or walk into a house you are thinking of buying, or read the first few sentences of a book, your mind takes about two seconds to jump to a series of conclusions. Well, "Blink" is a book about those two seconds, because I think those instant conclusions that we reach are really powerful and really important and, occasionally, really good.

You could also say that it's a book about intuition, except that I don't like that word. In fact it never appears in "Blink." Intuition strikes me as a concept we use to describe emotional reactions, gut feelings--thoughts and impressions that don't seem entirely rational. But I think that what goes on in that first two seconds is perfectly rational. It's thinking--its just thinking that moves a little faster and operates a little more mysteriously than the kind of deliberate, conscious decision-making that we usually associate with "thinking." In "Blink" I'm trying to understand those two seconds. What is going on inside our heads when we engage in rapid cognition? When are snap judgments good and when are they not? What kinds of things can we do to make our powers of rapid cognition better?"

    IM EXCITED.

He's a genius; i felt enlightened after reading this book...and a couple levels cooler carrying it around.

Who knew that the majority of major league hockey players are born in the first three months of the year? Or that the the smartest man with an IQ higher than Einstein's is sitting somewhere on a farm in rural Minnesota because a slew of unfortunate events led him to miss an opportunity at success. Random facts that you would never know compiled into one book about success. Its great.

"The goddam movies. They can ruin you. I'm not kidding."

    (Chapter 14, pg. 104)

Holden is describing an event he can picture happening with Maurice, the elevator guy. He imagines an action-filled scene which was far from the reality of the situation. Then he says this quote. Its very true. Movies exaggerate almost every life experience, to the point that we are not satisfied with real life situations because they aren't as eventful as in the movies. We sometimes forget that movies are fake and life is real. We need to lower our expectations and enjoy every day. Sometimes when we watch TV we forget that these people are actors, playing parts for a couple hours, laughing because thats what it says to do in the script.
